Hydrangeas for St. Patrick

www.atlantahomesmag.com

Don't you just love this centerpiece?  Did I create it?  Heavens, no!  Sadly, I'm not nearly that creative, have no hydrangeas here at this house, and if I did, they wouldn't be blooming right now anyway!

I thought the green looked great for spring, and as a happy coincidence, I was trying to decide what to use on my table for a St. Patrick's Day meal.  So, I set out to attempt to recreate it as best I could.  It's very similar to the decoration I did for the front door.

I used a similar glass vase from HL, and all the stems came from HL.

Thank you, Pinterest, and www.atlanthomesmag.com for the inspiration!

Hydrangeas for St. Patrick's Day, y'all!

Come Sit Under the Apple Tree!

On a beautiful morning in northeast Wisconsin, I decided to set a table under our very old and very large apple tree.

Here at our Wisconsin house/cottage, I have very little in the way of good china, but this set that I do have, with its rich jewel-tone colors, simply screams fall to me!

I took the really cheap and ugly old round table from the deck, hauled it out to the side yard, and covered it with a drop cloth.  Apples were literally falling all around me as I set up the table!  Instant table decor!

Aside from the colors, one reason I like this china is the ability to go monochromatic...

...or mix the colors (which is what I prefer)!

The runner has all the colors of the china (a happy coincidence)!

The centerpiece is a bunch of in-the-process-of-drying hydrangeas that I managed to save (there were lots of blossoms this year, but so little rain).  The colors are so pretty, even as they dry.

You are welcome to come by and sit under the apple tree; we'd love to have you!

A Peony For Your Thoughts

Although there has been precious little rain here lately, things are really filling out (thanks to copious amounts of watering!).  I thought you might like to see what is bloomin' around here (since I have nothing else to share at the moment!).  So...without further ado, here are some of the stars around here:

Those of you who have these lovely plants know how sweet the scent is.  They bloomed so fast that I didn't have time to bring any inside; but, they did put on a show for the neighborhood!

The boxes on the deck are filling in nicely; I couldn't bring myself to shear back that beautiful trailing lobellia!

The Asiatic lilies are popping out, too; these are the first!

The clematis is full of buds and blooms!

The Annabelle hydrangea is thinking about blooming soon!

The apples are actually getting ready for fall, way up high in the old apple tree!

A butterfly stopped by to perch on the shadow of a leaf on the wall of the old chicken coop!

And the fuschia is happy on an old cherry picking ladder under that old apple tree!

I hope that all of you are having a fabulous weekend!  The Headmaster and I are taking off this aft up the Peninsula to see a production of  "Opus" at Peninsula Players!  It's one of our favorite things to do in the summer!

The Headmistress will be attending some of these fabulous gatherings this week; thanks to all of the lovely and talented hostesses!

A Tale of Two Households

No, not ours, but a photo of a great old cabin out in the country in n'east Wisconsin!  Fall, 2011.

Twice a year we pick up and move from Louisiana to Wisconsin and back again.  After a few years of doing this, we finally are still trying to have things down to a science (keep in mind that we are also traveling with the two assistants)!  Part of the move involves shipping a few 'culinary' items that can't be readily found here, and that we just can't live without!  Here is what was in the box I shipped to myself:

Jambalaya mix and Camellia red beans!

This is the ONLY brand I can use, and I haven't seen them up here.

Also, I shipped a few vintage linens up to use. Wish I had brought more...oh well, there is always Etsy!!

The old watering can with dried Annabelle and Endless Summer hydrangeas is always here!

Because we are much more casual up here, we don't bring the china with us (we'd never get it all here!).  However, I did, a few years ago, manage to bring some great PLASTIC(!!) unbreakable dishes bought several years ago from Wal-Mart.  It will probably be the ONLY 'tablescape' I will manage to do for six months!  Anyway, here are some of the lovely margarita glasses from the set! (Yes, the wallpaper is VERY dated and needs desperately to be changed!  Assistants, get in here!!).

Today is cold and rainy, so the indoor project du jour is rearranging the pantry and culling stuff that has expired.  Lots to be done, inside and out.  Will take a few more days to 'regroup' and then hopefully some pictures and catch-up posts!

Have a wonderful week!
