Two For the Seesaw - Update

Update:  Apparently Mom and Dad abandoned the nest.  Since it was located right above the water faucet and we were watering constantly (until two days ago), there was just too much activity.  Two tiny eggs remain.

In our side yard there is a lovely lilac tree; it's even lovelier now that there is a cardinal nest!  We have been entertained with the chirping of the Daddy a during the day and evening.  He's keeping a very close eye on his house for sure!  Adjacent to that bed is the garage with a weathervane.  He perched there yesterday along with a little friend who just happened to be flying by.  They were so cute!

We haven't heard any baby chirps yet, but we're listening.  Enjoy your day!

  3. Hi Nancy! For a minute I thought the birds on each ends were cut outs but they're your real birdies! Great snap. You should frame this - it's great! I love watching the birds!
Have a wonderful weekend and eat some of those strawberries for me! :)
    Be a sweetie,

    1. Thanks, Shelia! Sadly, the parents abandoned the nest, but we are enjoying some house finches that must be living near!

  5. Hi, Nancy! I found you from a post at Inspired by Charm. When I saw you are a retired principal, I knew I had to subscribe. :) Then I saw you also live in Louisiana part of the time. I am an elementary school teacher at a private school in Shreveport. Oh, to be retired. LOL I have 2 children in college so I still have awhile. Look forward to getting to know you better, and I've enjoyed your lovely blog!!

  6. Hi, Nancy! You need to make prints of this photograph and frame it. It is a great piece of art. We had a silly thrush build a nest in a flimsy piece of privet next to the house. It is used by the squirrels to get to the roof and every tiny breeze makes it shiver. I thought for sure the eggs would roll out, but only one fell. The babies hatched and thus began THE SILENCE OF THE BIRDS! One day as Scout and Willie were napping under the privet a mighty wind blew up and a baby bird fell on Willie. He thought it a toy from heaven. I could not watch as he and Scout "played" with it. Then the other two fell out. It was a slaughter! Now both of them go around the yard looking up for more birds to fall! You can tell I have stayed up way too late and had to share this awful story. It still upsets me! I actually stood in the kitchen and cried.

    1. That is a sad story. Maybe the mommy will be wiser next year and build her next nest in a better location.

    1. Thanks for your comments, Kitty! Sadly, the parents left the nest; it was obviously too close to the water faucet which we had, until two days ago, been using constantly. We are, though, enjoying the songs of many house finches that are living nearby!
