In our small town in n'east Wisconsin, there is a festival every year in August to celebrate the Lake (Michigan, that is). There is always a photo contest; though I've never entered, I want to this year. I am such an amateur, and if there was a category beneath that, I would surely qualify. Anyway, I can only enter two photos. And I can't decide! I would be so grateful if those of you who read this would give me your thoughts on the following photos. So many of you are such wonderful photographers, and I would love your feedback!! Thank you so much!! Here they are:
#1: House in the ditch (and it really IS in a ditch!)
#2: Red cabin and fall foliage
#3: Barn and vine on silo
#4: Cows at the fence
#5: Garden Walk Wheelbarrow
Even if you don't follow this blog and are visiting from somewhere else, I would really appreciate your input! Thank you all so much in advance for your help!!
Nancy
ReplyDeleteNumber three - the barn and silo - is my favorite because of the contrasting colors and the texture that comes through. Go for it. I had never entered any art exhibition until the past eight months. I had a piece published in a magazine and a mixed media piece selected for a local gallery show. I was trying to email you about the Sunshine Award, but you are showing up as "no reply". Is that intentional?
Donna: I don't know why it shows up like that; how do I fix it?? However, I DID see it and am so flattered! I'm doing a post right now to add tomorrow...How great that your pieces were in a MAGAZINE and an ART GALLERY show!!! Thanks for your input, and thanks again for the Sunshine Award!!
DeleteDonna: I think I fixed the no-reply thing!
DeleteHello my friend, I love # 2 and 3 because of the fall look. Yes that is my favorite season and the pictures make you feel like you are in an array of calmness. I love the other picture also but if I had to put two on my walls that what they would be.The queen on the hill over seeing her stock in the barn. Miss and love you.
ReplyDeleteHi, Cheryl! Thank you so much! Miss you and love you, too!

Silo definitely. Then pick a theme: Summer to fall (house in the ditch); Nature or nurture (wheelbarrow); Farm landscapes (cows). I've enjoyed your photography. Keep it coming.

Thanks, Elizabeth, for your input! I have been watching that silo for years, but only got a picture of it last year!

My personal favorite is #1. I love pictures of old abandoned buildings and I love the way the light is shining down on it. However, I have to agree that for the contest #3 would probably be the best. The colors looks super sharp and vivid :)
ReplyDeleteThank you so much; actually, I didn't even see the sunbeam until after I uploaded! BTW, I can actually enter TWO, so I thank you doubly!

My favs are 1 and 5. My hubby is an amateur photographer and we both picked these two. Hope you do well whatever you choose. They are all lovely.
ReplyDeleteDebby: thanks to BOTH of you! I really, really appreciate your (and your husband's) input!

Nancy, as a photographer myself, one of my favorite things to take pictures of are abandoned buildings. So, I'll have to vote for number one. It makes me want to investigate further. The shaft of light beaming down is a plus ! If there are certain categories to enter, then the other pictures may do well if categorized. I love barns, too, but I think they can easily be overdone, with everyone and their brother entering a barn photo. As a gardener, I love the wheelbarrow, but not for a contest. Good luck ! I'm a follower so I know we'll find out the results after you do !
ReplyDeletePatty: Your input is sooooo appreciated! Yes, there are categories: pets, portrait and scenic. I supposed all of mine qualify as 'scenic', as the cows aren't ours and aren't really pets!!!!! I have been looking at that old building for years and so wish I could get inside of it!!! So far, I haven't figured a way in!!! Thanks again for your valuable help!

I like the one with the cat and dust bunnies..:)
ReplyDeleteSeriously, I like the wheelbarrow.
Paula Cottle Tate
Paula: I forgot all about THAT one; maybe I can enter it in the 'pet' category!!! Thanks for your input!
