Prying Spring from the Jaws of Winter!

We've been here over a week, and I have to tell you that it's just COLD!!  It's kind of like we've gone from winter to 'post-winter!'  Nevertheless, having done NOTHING up here last year when it was soooo hot and dry, I've been working in overdrive in the yard.  This will be a hodge podge of photographs, but I felt the need to post something!

Since we got here a little later than planned, I was afraid we had missed the 'blooming of the apple trees.'  Happily, they waited for us!  This is a smaller tree in the back, and...

...this is the HUGE apple tree on the east side.  It's just beautiful!  You may remember that it was the backdrop for this post
last fall when the apples were literally falling onto my tablescape!

Same big apple tree with a fuschia sitting on the cherry-picking ladder.

Beautiful creamy white blossoms of one of two plum trees.

There are four beds, three of which are planted.  The fourth one will hopefully materialize this week sometime (if it gets a tad warmer!).  I'll save those for later as 'before' pics; hopefully there will be some nice 'after' shots later in the summer.

For now, I'm in the basement doing laundry.  Have a good Sunday, y'all!

  1. I am so happy that the things waited for you to get home to bloom. It is crazy cold here. It doesn't seem like summer at all-and last year it was hotter than Hades. Can't win- xo Diana

  4. Nancy, I don't remember where your Summer home is, but I can totally understand not wanting to be in south Louisiana! I do not miss that heat and humidity. Wherever you are, I love your apple trees! May you and the Headmaster have a wonderful stay.

  5. Apple blossoms are red? I never realized that - they are beautiful. I am glad you got to see the blooming trees before they begin to fruit. Love that orchard ladder - you know that was on my list last weekend and I only found one for over $100! It is still "cool" for this time of year due to the rain, but sure the heat will suddenly burst out and smother us.

  6. Your post is so breath taking, I can almost smell the apple blossoms. I found you on Donna Wilkes' blog, she and I are mutual followers. I can tell from your warm smile that you must have been one very special principal. We live down the street from a local grade school and the principal there knows every child's name, she amazes me. I know that her love has touched the hearts of all the children at that school. Good teachers are angels here on earth. I am your newest follower, and I would love to invite you to visit my blog.
Have a lovely weekend, Connie :)
