The Scarecrow Cometh!

What beautiful blue eyes you have!

The first of October means the annual visit of our resident Scarecrow, known as Mr. SC.

When Mr. SC was constructed a number of years ago, I was happy and content to just have two pieces of lumber nailed together with a face and a hat.  However, the Headmaster, with his engineering background, insisted that the frame be much more elaborate.  So...THIS guy has an entire (almost) skeletal system made of PVC!

He sits on a straw bale the we keep using over and over, and has a great view of the fall color on our street.

Just look at that sweet face!

His attire is courtesy of a local thrift shop (though he does need a new tie).  He's also apparently been pumpkin picking!

This year, he has new accessories, all from the Dollar Tree:  A red-eyed rat (that also squeaks),

and on his hat, one of the famous black crows - look at those eye lashes!

Cornstalks came with the corn attached!

He's all set to greet the neighborhood children on Halloween night!

And here he is 'under the spotlight!'

Quite frankly, I really don't think he'll be scaring ANYONE; he's too cute!

  15. He IS mighty cute! He's "dressed to kill" but I don't think he'll be hurting anyone! :-) I like your husband's way of thinking. He wanted to make sure you weren't disappointed, so he built a better, stronger scarecrow. (Isn't that the line from the opening sequence of the old "Six Million Dollar Man" show?) :-) Teamwork! You guys did a wonderful job!!!

  16. You're right! He's so cute I think he'll be getting hugs instead of scaring people away. He looks like a good photo op to me. Bet the kids would love having their photos taken with him. Cute!

  18. I agree that he won't be scaring anyone-he is just so sweet and friendly looking! He has quite the skeleton!! Does he get a new wardrobe every year? Our scarecrows get pretty wet and messed up. I love them though, and my favorites live inside. Linda
